Getting And Using Third Party Software

Personal Web Pages @att.net allows you to use your own PC or Mac based authoring tools to create very personalized, sophisticated Web sites. All you need is a Web page authoring tool. If your authoring tool does not have built-in FTP (File Transfer Protocol) capability, you also need an FTP utility.

AT&T Worldnet Service does not provide, support or recommend any particular third party software. However, if you wish to use third party software, the Worldnet User's Reference Desk (WURD), which is our member-to-member support Web site, contains a very complete list of our members favorite Web authoring tools. This list contains detailed information about each product, what features they have, what they cost, if anything, as well as how well they rate with our members.

In addition, the WURD also has a substantial list of FTP utilities that you can download along with complete instructions on how to use each to upload your Web pages to your Web site.

For complete details, just click on the type of program you want:

If you want to use a generic, text based, FTP client to upload your Web pages to your Web site, here is how you do it:

  1. Establish a Dial-up connection with AT&T Worldnet Service.
  2. Create a DOS-prompt Window.
  3. Change your PC's directory to the directory that contains the file you wish to upload i.e. cd a:\)
  4. Type ftp at the dos prompt and press Enter.
  5. Type open upload.att.net and press Enter.
  6. Type in your email-id (don't use the @att.net part) and press Enter.
  7. Enter your e-mail password (no other security information) and press Enter.
  8. Type binary to select binary mode transfer and press Enter.
  9. Type put filename.jpg (to upload a file named filename.jpg) and press Enter
  10. Repeat as necessary.
  11. Type bye and press Enter.

Once you type bye, your FTP session is closed. The FTP server will then push the files you transferred to your Web site. It may take a minute or two for your new files to appear.
