Saving a Web Page to Your Hard Disk
Move your mouse pointer to the word File in the upper left-hand corner of your browser. Clicking on this word will open a menu. Depending on the version of browser you have, one of the menu choices will be labeled Save As, or Save As File, or something similar. Clicking on that choice will open a window with the following fields (again, the name of each field may differ slightly depending on your browser version):
- File name: This should be the only field you alter.
- Save as type: The default is HTML. Use this default; it allows you to open the file through your Web browser.
- Save in: The place on your hard disk where your file will be saved. Be sure to remember where you're saving it! (Note: this process will not save images that may appear on a Web page, but this should not affect your ability to read text on the page.
To open your saved file, start your Web browser and click on File (in the upper left-hand corner of the browser).
- If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Open from within the pull-down menu. A window labeled Open should appear; you can either type the exact location of your file and click the OK button, or click the Browse button to search for the file. If you click the Browse button, a second window labeled Open should appear. You can search for and open your file through this window.
- If you use Netscape Navigator, click Open File from within the pull-down menu. A window labeled Open should appear; you can either type the exact location of your file and click the OK button, or search for and open your file through this window.
Use your browser's Back button to return to your previous location.
